The relationship between paintingand photography has been in constant flux since the beginning of photography. My work continues to look at this relationship. Using found photographs as a source material, I tend to focus on what is going on in the background or off to the side. These spaces are normally overlooked when passing by or thumbing through a photo album. The paintings combine elements of noir with minimalism, thus giving a sense of isolation, unease and sadness. At the same time I'm examining the reverse side of these photos, both individually and in groups to form minimal compositions that are produced as inkjet prints.
